Pilot Selection for World Air Games Begins ...

Today, the pilot selection for the World Air Games in Turin, Italy begins.

I have sent messages to the Delegates of those countries eligible to participate in the Games asking for their selections. CIVA will not select pilots -- as some other FAI Air Sports Commissions do -- but will leave it to our NACs to do so.

Countries eligible to select pilots for the Power Aerobatics division of the Games include France, Spain, Russia, USA, Great Britain, Czech Republic, Switzerland, and Italy. Russia and the USA are eligible to send two pilots each -- one male and one female.

Glider Aerobatics division pilots will come from Russia, Hungary, Poland, Germany, France, Austria, Czech Republic, USA, Netherlands, and Italy.

If any of these countries fail to nominate pilots, the next country in line will be contacted. Deadline is 1 October 2008. A total of 10 Power and 10 Glider pilots will fly. The host country, Italy, is entitled to a spot in both divisions because it is the host country.

The Games will be an outstanding and fun event for all participants with your help and support. As we receive more news, I will be sure to keep you informed.

Rules for the Games (which will be a new Part 3 of Section 6 of FAI Sporting Code) will be published shortly.
