The Austrian open Championship 1998 will be held in the same place and the same time of the year as the World Championship 1999 and should be a check for the infrastructure and the organisation. On the other hand we want to give interested pilots the possibility to get familiar with the area where the World Championship will be performed.

Therefore we invite from each nation in a first round one pilot to compete with the best Austrian and possibly best balloonists around the world. In case not all entitled nations accept the chance, we will fill up the number to a maximum of 80 competitors from interested countries following the semiproportional formula.

Event details

1. The championship will take place in Bad Waltersdorf from September 3rd to 6th 1998
2. The possibility for free flights will be given to foreign pilots from August 30th to September 2nd . Met service will be also available during this time.
3. The rules will be the UMR AX (1997 version) as published by the CIA
4. Championship director: Les Purfield ( assisted by Hans Huber )
5. Entry fee:
   For the Championship only US$ 360.-
   For the hole week US$ 450.-

   Entry fee in each case covers:
   • for the pilot: competition maps, road map for the retriev crew, rules book, propan for the booked time;
     
   • for 3 persons per team: opening ceremony and pricegiving diner, free entry to the thermal bath.
6. NAC´s must declare their intention to nominate pilots before February 28th. Names and addresses of the pilots shall be available not later than March 31st.
7. Retrieve cars can be hired.
