CIA WORLD AIR GAMES WORKING GROUP MEETING

Thessaloniki, Greece, 1st March 2000

MINUTES

1.    Present

2.    Overall World Air Games planning

3.    Test and Main Events planning

Anulfo Gonzalez gave his report (to be presented to the Plenary Delegates), and confirmed the following points:

    1. The permission has now been obtained for the chosen launch field.
    2. That outstanding problems concerning Air Traffic Control have been resolved.
    3. That 65 competitors are expected for the Test Event (including the Spanish Nationals, and that 21 International Observers had already been recruited.

It was agreed that the Tablada Airfield was still the preferred location for the launch of the gas balloons, and negotiations should be started with the other disciplines scheduled to use the site.

4.    Event Officials

    The chairman explained that he had asked the BX WG, the AA/AM WG, The Safety SC and the Jury Board to nominate Event Directors, Deputy Directors, Safety Officers and Jury Members accordingly. At the time of the meeting only the BX WG had responded, nominating David Rapp (USA) as Event Director and Ted Moore (GBR) as Deputy Director.

5.    Competitor Selection Process

    The chairman explained that the proposed Competitor Selection Process for the AX Championships was a separate agenda item, but that the WG could express a preference for Alternative 1 or Alternative 2 of paragraph 3. It was agreed to recommend acceptance of Alternative 2.

6.    Nomination of WG members for 2000/20001
