Nomination of Mr. Albert CRAMER
for the Montgolfier Diploma / Contribution to the Sport

The German Balloon Federation Deutscher Freiballon-Sport Verband (DFSV), representing the sport of ballooning on behalf of the German National Aero Club (DAeC) is pleased to submit the name of Mr. Albert CRAMER for receiving the FAI GENERAL AWARDS for Ballooning to recognize a major contribution to the development of the sport of ballooning in general:

Mr. Cramer is a long time gas- and hot air balloon pilot. To many people he is internationally also known as the owner of the German beer brewery „Warsteiner"- company. He linked his advertising power as a businessman to developing the sport of ballooning to an extent unknown to most of us so far.

His biggest ongoing support of sport-pilots dates back to the year 1989 when he first supported the German competitors flying the World Championship in Saga / Japan. This was on a limited scale but proved to be very successful. Mr. Benedikt Haggeney, winning the World Champion title in Saga, then convinced Mr. Cramer to become the main sponsor of the German National hot air balloon team from 1990 onwards.

Since then, 6 national teams consisting of 6 to 7 pilots were supported by being given the balloons as well as being assisted in financing the journeys to the various locations all over the world. The pilots, being so much reliefed from the burdens that usually absorb a lot of energy and attention prior and during the championships, flew very well and placed in the high rankings in European- and World Championships as well as in the first World Air Games.

Mr. Cramer has not only been supporting the top pilots since many years by sponsoring the German Hot Air Balloon National Team. He as well is the main supporter for the Gas Balloon National Team. His gas-balloon origin clearly made it easy for him to see the challenge and experience one can find in flying the distance and going for time.

Additionally, quite a number of hot air balloons and also airships he sponsored outside Germany to enable pilots to practice the sport of ballooning.

He as well sponsored several major gas balloon races both in Europe and the United States of America. Through this he has heavily contributed to further developing the sport of ballooning. Especially his support for several Gordon Bennett Races in the recent past is worth while to be honoured.

It is probably the company of Mr. Cramer and himself personally that for the time being does the most worldwide to keep the „little candle of gasballooning burning". His recent decision is to engage in a regular investment into new gas-ballons each year for the next future.

The German Balloon Federation is extremely pleased to have Mr. Cramer as a reliable friend to ballooning. We appreciate that he links his clear business objectives to ballooning and still gives the Balloon Federation the freedom to focus on the sport of ballooning, on pilots, on crews and thereby to develop the sport of ballooning in general.

We therefore think it is appropriate to nominate Mr. Albert Cramer for the Montgolfier Diploma as he has contributed so much.

We appreciate the consideration of this nomination.

Thank you very much.
