FÉDÉRATION AÉRONAUTIQUE INTERNATIONALE
FAI BALLOONING COMMISSION (CIA)

ANNUAL CONFERENCE - Bern, Switzerland March 2001

Appendix 1

CIA BUREAU ACTIONS SINCE MARCH 2000

Date                             Decision

1. 06.08.00 The Bureau approved the appointment of Mark Sullivan / USA as Event Director for the WAG AA Championship.

2. 06.08.00 The Bureau approved, subject to the agreement of Mark Sullivan, the appointment of Markus Haggeney / Germany as Deputy Director for the WAG AA Championship.

3. 06.08.00 In view of the likely shortage of airship entries for the WAG BX Championship, the Bureau felt that the CIA should only support the event if there are 12 or more entries. This would not preclude the organisers to continue with the event as planned.

4. 06.08.00 In view of recent problems with the Spanish immigration officials, preventing entry into Spain of East European entrants for the WAG CUP 2000, the Bureau decided to strongly request the WAG organisers to ensure that no competitors or crews from any country will be prevented from entering Spain to take part in the WAG 2001.

5. 06.08.00 Acting on a request formulated by the WAG aerostation event organisers, the CSC, the RSC and the WAG WG, the Bureau decided to slightly modify the selection process for the AX WAG Championship (as follows below), as it was felt that the original selection process was unlikely to provide sufficient entries to reach the 101 required.

3.2 one to each country for each placing it achieved in the previous WAG ranked 2 to 16 (previously 2 to 11)

3.3 one to each country for each placing it achieved in the previous two World Championships ranked 1 to 15 (previously 1 to 10)

3.4 one to each country for each placing it achieved in the previous Continental Championship ranked 1 to 8 (previously 1 to 5)

The CIA Secretary to inform CIA delegates of this change as soon as possible by mail and the CIA web page.

6. 06.08.00 The Bureau agreed to ask the WAG organisers to improve their communications with competitors and officials for the WAG 2001 events. Distribution of documents and information via the web only was not considered sufficient.

7. 06.08.00 The Bureau agreed to ask the WAG organisers to appoint a Media/PR person for the events as soon as possible, and that this person liase with Alex Nagorski.

8. 06.08.00 The Bureau decided to task the RSC to study a proposal to make Safety Briefings a mandatory part of the General Briefing at CIA sanctioned events.

9. 20.08.00 The Bureau approved a proposition from the FAI Great Balloon Race WG to consider Dubai as a possible venue for the GBR.

J. Sax to replace V. Thorne - Motegi, Japan
