In an e-mail message to the Team Managers of the countries participating in the World Aerobatic Championships later this month, I announced the new procedures for the selection of pilots for Programme 4 (the Final Freestyle event). Attached below for download is the International Jury document that explains the procedures for pilot selection. The regulations regarding pilot selection were changed last year at the CIVA plenary meeting and this is the first WAC these rules are implemented. The International Jury document expands on the rules and explains in detail how they will work at this year's Championships.
This year, 3 pilots will enter Programme 4 only. This is now permitted by the rules. These pilots also get first priority on the available slots. The document details all of this and how the other pilots are selected. The pilots flying Programme 4 only are Eric Vazeille (GBR), Ramon Alonso (ESP), and Jurgis Kairys (LIT). Eric and Ramon are former World Aerobatic Champions. All 19 countries which have registered for WAC have indicated they will have pilot(s) available to fly this programme. Programme 4 -- also known as the "4 Minute Free" -- is one of WAC's most exciting and interesting programmes and will take place this year on Saturday, the 29th of August just before the public airshow.
