FAI Awards for Gliding

The Lilienthal Gliding Medal ...


To reward a particularly remarkable performance in gliding, or eminent services to the sport of gliding over a long period of time, the FAI created this medal in 1938. It may be awarded annually to a glider pilot who has : - established an international record during the past year ; or made a pioneer flight (defined as a flight which has opened new possibilities for gliding and/or gliding techniques) ; or rendered eminent service to the sport of gliding over a significant period of time, and is still an active glider pilot.

Sporting Code and Annexes
The latest versions of Section 3 of the FAI Sporting Code are:
  • Section 3, 1999 Edition 5th Amendment, valid from October 1, 2004,
  • Annex A to SC3, 2002 Edition, including ammendments valid from March 1, 2004.
  • Annex B to SC3, including ammendments 1 and 2, valid from October 1, 2004
  • Annex C to SC3, 2000 Edition, 5th Amendment, valid from October 1, 2004.
Changes and proposals for changes actioned at the 2004 meeting.

Communication channels

Mailing lists: The IGC has 2 public mailing lists. Both lists are used to disseminate official FAI/IGC information such as notification of world records, information on championships, news/press releases etc., but one may be used in addition for discussion. You do not need to subscribe to both. Choose between:

igc-discuss@fai.org, Discussion is allowed on this list, on topics relevant to gliding and IGC. No attached files! Max. 64 kB per posting.

igc-news@fai.org. Only for information, discussion is not allowed. The list is moderated.
