10 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

In the Agenda the President had pointed out that in view of the regular European meetings only very urgent matters of European gliding events could be decided and/or short information might be given at plenary assemblies of IGC.

10.1 3rd European Junior Gliding Championships 1995 in Poland.

The Polish delegate, Dr. Waldemar Ratajczak, presented his report from 15. September, 1995 (see Annex A of the minutes of the European IGC meeting in Helsinki, 30. September, 1995). He had added an additional note regarding the Polish pilot Sebastian Kawa, whose cameras and films were stolen and who - for this reason - was scored zero point for one day. The films were found after the prize-giving. They proved that he would have been European Champion of the Standard Class by a wide margin if the photos were presented at time. The note reads:

Additional note - after due considerations of all the evidence, FAI decided that the final results should remain unchanged, but that a special honour diploma should be presented in recognition of Sebastian Kawa's achievement.

10.2 9th International European Women's Gliding Championships 1995 in Marpingen, Germany.

No additional report was given. See Annexes B and C to the minutes of the European IGC meeting in Helsinki, on 30.09.1995.

10.5 4th European Junior Gliding Championships in Musbach, Germany, from 8. to 22. August, 1997

The German delegate, Bruno Gantenbrink, reported.

All preparations are going on as planned. The rules and the other necessary documents will be published in due time before the European IGC meeting on 26. October, 1996.

10.6 10th International European Women's Gliding Championships, 1997.

There were three bids for organising this event, from Slovak Republic with the airfield Prievidza, from Poland with the airfield Leszno, and from Sweden with the airfield Lidköping- Hovby. All three bidders advertised skilfully for their events, stressing the special advantages of their respective countries.

The first secret ballot did not produce an absolute majority, but Poland with the fewest votes dropped out. A second secret ballot did not bring an absolute majority either because of too many abstentions. But the third secret ballot ended in an absolute majority for the Slovak Republic.

The 10th International European Womens' Championships will be held at the airfield Prievidza, Slovak Republic, in the two first weeks of July, 1997. 50 gliders will be accepted. Camping and hotel accommodation are offered for modest costs, living costs are promised to be low. Good thermal conditions in a charming area are predicted with average tasks between 200 and 500 km. The entry fee will be 600 DM, subject to the inflation rate of the German mark.
