President's Letter to Delegates and Committee Chairmen 2009-5

Christmas News

May I wish you all the very best for the festive season and the New Year.

It is timely for me to update you all on activities in the past couple of months.

3rd FAI World Sailplane GP Final, January 2 – 9, 2010
Our friends in Santiago, Chile, have been working hard to get this event ready to go in January. The website is http://www.grandprixchile.org

The enthusiasm and energy shown by the organising team is tremendous. The event will have live internet streaming of the racing with commentary by Shaun Lapworth, who did the commentary at the World Air Games. IGC is sending Shaun to Santiago as an investment in this event. Brian Spreckley has been appointed Referee and Roland Stuck Contest Director.

PILOT SELECTION PROCESS
for
World and Continental Gliding Championships

Dear Friends, please pass this information to your National Team Managers and Coaches.

Over the last years the number of entries at international championships has increased significantly. This is a very welcome indicator of the health of our sport, but it does mean that we need to find a way to manage the number of entries in IGC sanctioned championships if there were too many preliminary registrations. In March 2009 a somewhat complex debate occurred at the IGC Plenary meeting but, as no conclusions were reached, the Bureau was mandated to come up with a solution.
