WPRS - Category 1 versus Category 2 & PG Country Rankings
Lausanne, 09 August 2000
Category 1 versus Category 2 points
There is currently considerable discussion re whether a Category 1 Continental Championships should qualify for 100 World Pilot Ranking Scheme (WPRS) points. This has become an issue as currently the only continental championships being held in 2000 are the Europeans in both hang gliding and paragliding. This is one of the WPRS topics which is currently being reviewed by the WPRS working group. However for the moment there is agreement among CIVL Bureau that the system should not be changed retrospectively or for the remainder of the 2000 season.
Whilst, inititally, it may seem unfair to non-European pilots, when considering the options available and providing feedback please remember that other continental regions are encouraged
to bid for and hold continental championships (e.g. a Pan-American hang gliding championships
was scheduled for 2000 but cancelled due to lack of support from pilots).
Paragliding Country's Ranking
This system has been running for a few months now and it has come to light that it may need some further tuning. Therefore this will be discussed amongst the CIVL Bureau and WPRS working group and the Bureau will draft recommendations at their October meeting for presentation and a final decision at the Plenary meeting in February 2001.
Constructive feedback on either of these topics should be sent to Paula Bowyer (paula@fai.org).
