CIVL success in Mexico

With something for everyone, the CIVL Plenary meeting combined discussions, resolutions, clarifications, training and practical sessions. Diverse topics included new scoring software, new rules on team entries and scoring, resolutions on air marshals, progress on HG pitch stability discussions, continental championships for 2010 and a myriad details. The full minutes will be available very soon.

World focus: Women’s World, World OLC, World Air Games…

Highlights from this year’s Bureau Meeting in October, in Iceland include:
• Agreement that Italy will hold the Women’s World Hang Gliding class 1, World Hang Gliding Class 5 and possibly Class 2 Championships combined in July 2008.
• Agreement that CIVL will run a trial World Online XC Competition in 2008.
• Significant progress in the new FS flight scoring and verification system. Beta version should be available before the end of the year.
• World Air Games – promising to be a highly prestigious event in Turin in 2009.
A word of warning – the 1st Pan American Paragliding Championship, scheduled for March 2008, could be in jeopardy if Brazil does not pay its FAI membership fee.

New formula for the World Pilot Ranking System

The new, improved World Pilot Ranking System (WPRS) is up and running!
A new formula for calculating the World Pilot Ranking System (WPRS), proposed by the CIVL Scoring & Ranking Systems and Software Working Group, was discussed and agreed at the Plenary meeting in Talloires, France, in February 2007. The agreed implementation date was 1st March, 2007.

The new formula marks a significant improvement on the old versions, and importantly, the same formula can now be used for all disciplines. The disciplines covered by the WPRS include: Paragliding XC, Paragliding Accuracy, Paragliding Aerobatics (Syncro and Solo), Hang Gliding XC Class1, Hang Gliding XC Class 2, Hang Gliding Class 5 and Hang Gliding Aerobatics. Within each discipline, the rankings for Nations and Women are also listed.

Building an environmental network

The CIVL bureau has just reactivated its Working Group for Environmental Affairs. Its Chairman, Thomas Senac, is looking for concerned people to build a dedicated network.
