Awards for 2005

Nominations for FAI awards - Hang gliding and Paragliding Diploma and the Pepe Lopez Medal - shall be sent to the FAI Secretariat together with citations not exceeding 100 words, and other supporting information required in “the By-Laws to the FAI Statutes”, chapter 12, (http://www.fai.org/documents/constitution), to arrive no later than the 12th December 2005.

FAI Centennial : Carlos Izquierdo, Philippe Broers, Manfred Ruhmer and Gin Song honoured

One of the roles of FAI is to give recognition to great performances by pilots of all kinds and to exceptional efforts made by individuals to promote and develop sporting aviation. The Centennial Conference in Paris, this October, celebrated the achievement of hang gliding and paragliding pilots Carlos Izquierdo, Philippe Broers and Manfred Ruhmer. Gin Song, who was not present, will receive his award later.

The Hang Gliding Diploma

The Hang gliding Diploma, established by CIVL in 1978, may be awarded every year to an individual "who is considered to have made the most contribution to the development of hang gliding by his initiative, work, leadership or flying achievement".

Today's requirement

- Paraglider: (Class 3)
Bronze: 15km, or 1 hour duration, or 500m gain of height
Silver: 30km, and 3 hours duration, and 1000 m gain of height
Gold: 75km, and 5 hours duration, and 2000 m gain of height
Diamond: 125km open course, or 125 km closed course, or 3000 m gain of height (for 3 separate Diamond Badges)
