CIVL NEWS: WPRS Update 1st February

An interesting update, with major changes in all disciplines due to the WAG and 13 other competitions being deleted.

Added in this update are 2 Paragliding comps, 3 HG comps and 2 Class 5. Deleted are the World Air Games in all Classes, as well as 7 PG, 5 HG & 1 PPG competition.

HANG GLIDING (Class 1)
The WAG, Dutch Open, French Champ, Nordic Masters, Slovenian Open and the Spanish Open were deleted. Added were the Australian Open, Bogong Cup and Australian Nationals. Results of the South African HG Championships were received late so were not added. The Open Canarias was not valid.

All change as Oleg Bondarchuk (UKR) leaps 4 places to take number 1 spot. Gordon Rigg (GBR) jumps 2 places to be 2nd while Gerolf Heinrichs
(AUT) and Antoine Boisselier (FRA) each drop 1 place to 3rd & 4th. Mario Alonzi (ITA) climbs 3 places to 5th, above Manfred Ruhmer (AUT) who tumbles to 6th. Jean-Francois Gerard (FRA) stays 7th while Tom Weissenberger (AUT) bounds 11 places to 8th, Andreas Olsson (SWE) gains a place to 9th and Richard Walbec (FRA) jumps 2 to be 10th.

In the nations ranking France takes number 1 spot, Germany stay 2nd and Austria drop to 3rd. Australia gains one place, USA 2 places and the UK drops 2 places to 6th. Ukraine, Sweden and Hungary all rise 2 places to 7th, 8th & 9th and Brazil drops 2 places to 10th.

PARAGLIDING
The CNP Roldanillo and Monarco Open (Mexico) were added. Deleted were the WAG, PWC (World Cup) in France, the Belgian Open, British Open, Czech Open, Greek Champs, Nordic Open and the US Nationals. Results from the La Palma Open were received late so were no added.

Alex Hofer (SUI) takes the lead and Norman Lausch (GER) storms up 5 places to be 2nd, deposing Steve Cox (SUI) to 3rd. Jean-Marc Caron (FRA) stays 4th while Torsten Siegel (GER) gains 4 places to 5th. Oliver Rossel (GER) and Achim Joos (GER) each fall a place to 6th & 7th. New faces complete the top 10 - Shoichiro Tadano (JPN) soars 6 places to 8th while Patrick Berod (FRA) gains 4 places to be equal 9th with Helmut Eicholzer (AUT) who climbed 10 places.

In the nations rankings, Switzerland still lead, Germany and France each move up place to 2nd and 3rd deposing Austria to 4th. Japan gain a place to 5th swapping places with South Africa (6th). Korea moves up 2 places to 7th, Italy stay 8th, the Czech Republic gain a place to 9th and the UK drops 3 places to 10th. There are only 6 points separating Korea, Czech Rep. and Italy

CLASS 5
The WAG were deleted and results from the Bogong Cup and Australian Nationals were added.

Christian Ciech (ITA) still leads in 1st place, but Johann Posch (AUT) takes 2nd from Alessandro Ploner (ITA) in 3rd. Davis Straub (USA) moves up 2 places to 4th and Bruce Barmakian (USA) also moves up 2 places to be 5th equal with Toni Raumaf (AUT) who fell a place. David Chaumet drops 2 places to 7th and some new faces enter the top 10 - Heiner Biesel (USA) and Marcus Hoffmann Guben (GER) both move up 3 places to 8th and 9th while Oliver Schmidt (GER) gains 5 places to be 10th.

The top 6 remain the same, USA still leads, Germany is in 2nd and Switzerland 3rd.

PARAGLIDING ACCURACY
The Slovenian Accuracy Open 01 was deleted.

Matjaz Feraric (SLO) still leads from Matjaz Sluga, but Mitja Omahna
(SLO) takes 3rd from Simeon Klokocovnik (SLO). Stojan Klenovsek(SLO) jumps 3 places to 5th, Tomaz Gorisek moves up one place to 6th while Franc Unuk (SLO) drops one place to 7th and Tone Svoljsak (SLO) drops 3 places to 8th. Josef Rabic (CRO) gains 3 places to 9th and Vlado Durkovic moves up one place to complete the top 10.

Slovenia still leads with GBR in 2nd and Yugoslavia in 3rd.

CLASS 2
The WAG was deleted which puts Manfred Ruhmer (AUT) into the lead, 1 point ahead of Robin Hamilton (GBR) in 2nd, who is 1 point ahead of Brian Porter (USA) in 3rd.

GBR is in the top spot but Germany overtakes USA into 2nd. Austria and France complete the 5 nations. Full details at http://www.fai.org/hang_gliding/rankings/class2/
