03/12/1999 | Posted by Thierry at 11:46 AM

The next millenium is nearly with us and CIVL are planning the future of hang gliding and paragliding championships. The World Air Games in 2001 will host the next World Championships for hang gliding, class 2 and paragliding.

CIVL would like to take this opportunity to invite bids to host hang gliding and paragliding Continental Championships in the year 2002. Hosts for these Continental Championships (European, Pan American, Pan Asian, Women's HG, Accuracy, etc) will be decided at the CIVL Plenary meeting in February 2000.

If you would like to bid for any of the above championships then your intention to bid should be notified as soon as possible to Noel Whittall, CIVL Secretary

We have received notification of bids for hang gliding European Championships and Pan American Hang Gliding and Paragliding
Championships. However, as yet there has been no notification of a bid for the 2002 paragliding European Championships, if you are intending to bid or would like to bid for this event then please contact Noel Whittall immediately to register your intention to bid.

Potential host nations should refer to chapter 3 of the FAI General Section, in particular 3.8.1 and chapter 5 of Sporting Code, Section 7, Class O (hang gliders and paragliders), both available on the FAI website.

Bids to host Continental Championships in the year 2002 will be voted on and awarded at the 2000 CIVL Plenary to be held Friday 24 February to Sunday 27 February, 2000, at Sitges, Near Barcelona, Spain. Bidders should attend this meeting and be prepared to make a short presentation. An outline of requirements for the presentation can be obtained once notification of the bid has been received.

Notification of intentions to bid for the following championships in 2003 will also be welcome at the Plenary meeting:

World Championships (HG, class 2 & PG)
Contintental Championships

CIVL look forward to hearing from potential Championship hosts in the very near future.
