Championship bids

The following Championships will be awarded at the CIVL Plenary in February 2003:

* World HG championship in 2005
* World PG championship in 2005
* World Accuracy PG Championship in 2005
* European open Rigid wings Championship in 2005

Minutes CIVL Bureau meeting '02

The minutes of the CIVL Bureau meeting held in France, 25-27th October 2002 are now published on the web at http://www.fai.org/hang_gliding/meetings/

As well as reviews of the Category 1 events and future bids, there are outlines of some of the proposals for the Plenary meeting in Romania 21-23 February 2003. Items for the agenda need to be sent to CIVL president Olivier Burghelle (Olivier.bughelle@wanadoo.fr ) by December 8th 2002 to ensure circulation to all delegates.

World Pilot Rankings Update 1st November 2002

The WPRS will now be prepared on the 1st day of the month and published by FAI 2-3 working days afterwards.

This update has had 2 Precision PG comps added, 7 Paragliding comps added, but also sees changes to Class 1, 2 & 5 from competitions being deleted.

PARAGLIDING
Competitions added are; the US Nationals (Owens); British Open (Algodonales); Pre PWC China; Greek National Champs; Korean PG League; South African Open plus corrections to the PG Europeans.

The top 10 stays the same with Steve Cox (SUI) in number 1 slot, Alex Hofer (SUI) and Oliver Rossel (GER) stay 2nd with Jean-Marc Caron (FRA) 4th and Marco (FRA) keeps 5th place.

In the nations ranking there is no change to the top 6 with Switzerland 1st place, France 2nd and Austria 3rd, but South Africa jumps back up to 7th, deposing Italy to 8th,Korea stays in 9th and Czechoslovakia enter the top ten in 10th place for the first time. HANG GLIDING (Class 1)
Results not received, so NOT added are; The St Bernards Canungra Classic; Korean HG League Munkyung. The Flytec, Wallaby and Lithuanian competitions were deleted.

There are small changes to the top 10. The top 5 remain Manfred Ruhmer (AUT), Gerholf Heinrichs (AUT), Antoine Boisselier (FRA), Gordon Rigg and Oleg Bondarchuk (UKR). Guido Gehrmann (GER) moves up into 6th, Jean-Francois Gerard (FRA) moves up a place to 7th, Mario Alonzi (FRA) stays 8th, Robert Reisinger (AUT) drops to 9th and Andreas Olsson (SWE) completes the top 10.

In the nations ranking, Austria remains in 1st place and Germany move up into 2nd to knock France into 3rd for the first time this year. The UK stays in 4th but Spain moves up another place to 5th, followed by Australia, also up a place to 6th and the USA drop two places to 7th. Brazil, Ukraine and Sweden complete the top 10. Switzerland is now behind Israel and Hungary.

PARAGLIDING ACCURACY
Competitions added are the Yugoslavian (NIS) Open and the UK Sky Lincs. Results from the Greek Precision PG comp and the British Nationals were not received so were NOT added.

Matjaz Feraric (SLO) still leads from his fellow Slovenians; Matjaz Sluga and Simeon Klokocovnik.

There are now 7 countries in the Nations rankings, dominated by Slovenia followed by Yugoslavia and Macedonia. Croatia & Bulgaria hold 5th & 6th and GBR and Austria join for the first time.

CLASS 5
Flytec 01 & Wallaby 01 were deleted.

There is no change to the top 10, with Christian Ciech (ITA) in 1st place, Alessandro Ploner (ITA) 2nd and Johann Posch (AUT) 3rd. Check the FAI website at http://www.fai.org/hang_gliding/rankings/class5/

USA still leads the nations rankings with Germany 2nd and Switzerland 3rd.

CLASS 2
Flytec 01 & Wallaby 01 were deleted.

No changes, Brian Porter remains in 1st only 1 point ahead of Manfred Ruhmer (AUT) in 2nd. Robin Hamilton (GBR) is 1 point behind in 3rd.

GBR is in the top spot followed by USA but Germany takes 3rd place from Austria. Full details at http://www.fai.org/hang_gliding/rankings/class2/

QUALIFYING COMPETITIONS

Paragliding
Forthcoming paragliding competitions that qualify for WPRS points are:
Category 2: All Africa PG Champs; Bright PG Champs; Australian PG Open; Russian Open (Austria).
Category 1; PG Worlds (Portugal) 2003; Asian Championship (2004)
