WPRS Update 1st Sept 2003

HANG GLIDING (Class 1)
Added were the World Championships, Portugese (Bornes) Open, Spanish Open, Greek Open (Mt Parnassus), Best of Diedams, Podbrezova Cup, Greek Open (Mt Kozakas), Dutch/Slovenian Open, Russian Flatland, German Open and the Russian Open. The Valadares Open was deleted. Results still not received so NOT added: Upper Austrian Open (May), Open Serra de Estrela, Victoria Cup Donovaly, Brasilia, Montana Cup.

There are considerable changes to the top 10 after the World Championships. Manfred Ruhmer (AUT) retains his lead, but Antoine Boisselier (FRA) gains 3 places to be 2nd, deposing Oleg Bondarchuk (UKR) to 3rd. Bruno Guillen (FRA) rises 3 places to 4th and Robert Reisinger (AUT) also does well to move up 4 places to 5th. Gerolf Heinrichs (AUT) drops 3 places to 6th, Mario Alonzi (FRA) also moves down 3 places to 7th and Richard Walbec falls 2 places to 8th. Andreas Olsson (SWE) makes it back into the top 10 in 9th place and Gordon Rigg (GBR) falls 2 to be 10th, his lowest ranking since June 2000.

In the nations rankings, France still lead, Germany stay 2nd but Austria maintain their rise to be 3rd. Full details of the HG rankings can be found on the FAI website:

PARAGLIDING
Competitions added were the German Open, Russian Open (Stavropol), Macedonian Open, Carpathian Open, Nordic Open, Italian Open, PG World Cup La Clusaz. Deleted were the Australian PG Open, NZ Nationals and the Real Minas. Results still not received so NOT added: X Copa Pirineus, Swiss PG Champs, Greek Open (Amfikela), Slovak Open, Pedrobarnardo Open, Portuguese Open, Belgian Open, Montana Cup, CIS Cup, Dutch Open, Norwegian League, Welsh International.

The top 5 remain the same, Alex Hofer (SUI) maintains his lead with Norman Lausch (GER) 2nd, Helmut Eicholzer (AUT) 3rd, Jean-Marc Caron (FRA) 4th, Achim Joos (GER) 5th. Jimmy Pacher (ITA) continues his rise, up 4 to 6th and the rest of the top 10 move down 1 place - Christian Tamegger (AUT) 7th, Tomas Brauner (CZE Rep) 8th, 9th are Marion Scotty (USA) and Tadano Shiochiro (JAP).

In the nations rankings Switzerland maintain their lead, France bounce up 2 to 2nd while Japan and Austria drop 1 place to 3rd and 4th. More details are on the FAI website - http://www.fai.org/paragliding/rankings/

PARAGLIDING ACCURACY
The World Championships and the DSC was added.

There are considerable changes after the World Championships, but Matjaz Feraric (SLO) retains his lead, with Matjaz Sluga (SLO) in 2nd. Andy Shaw (GBR) jumps 6 places to 3rd deposing Tone Svoljsak (SLO) 1 place to 4th. David Sluga (SLO) rises 6 places to 5th while Simeon Klocovnik (SLO) drops 2 to 6th. Jaka Gorenc falls 2 places to 7th, Sandi Marincic (SLO) drops a place to 8th, Frank Unuk (SLO) gains a place to 9th and in =10th are Brett Janaway (GBR) and Neil Slinger (GBR).

In the nations, the top 3 remain the same, Slovenia, GBR in 2nd and Serbia and Montenegro in 3rd. Bulgaria move up a place and the Czech Republic and Lithuania join the ranking for the first time in 5th and 6th as do Korea and Croatia.

CLASS 5
The German Open was added.

No change - Christian Ciech (ITA) leads Alessandro Ploner (ITA) in 2nd, David Chaumet (FRA) stays 3rd, Johan Posch (AUT) 4th, Bruce Barmakian (USA) 5th, Toni Raumauf (AUT) =6th with Davis Straub (USA), Heiner Biesel (USA) 8th, Juerg Ris (SUI) 9th place and Hansjoerg Truttmann (SUI) completes the top 10.

12 nations are ranked and there are no changes to the order, USA still dominate with Switzerland 2nd and Germany 3rd.

CLASS 2
There are no changes.

Brian Porter (USA) leads, 1 point ahead of Manfred Ruhmer (AUT with Robin Hamilton (UK) in 3rd.

USA is in the nations top spot, GBR is 2nd, Germany 3rd.
