IPC Subcommittee for Freestyle Skydiving & Skysurfing
At the IPC meeting in February 1996 in Paris it was decided that
the respective Subcommittees would release status reports of their
respective activities. Below you will find the third report of the
Freestyle Skydiving & Skysurfing Subcommittee. These reports will be
continued in the future as quarterly bulletins and to be distributed in
January, May, August and November each year. The present bulletin # 3 is
being published in February because of the IPC meeting in Kenya which
took place precisely during the planned release time. By being late
however, it is more complete in recent information. The news bulletins
will be distributed to the IPC section of the FAI internet site
( http://www.fai.org/parachuting/committees/fss/ ) and to major skydiving
magazines. The Subcommittee feels these bulletins will serve as a medium
of information in the very fast skydiving environment.
| IPC meeting Kenya January 29 - February 2, 1997 |
This annual meeting of the International Parachuting Commission took place at a quite exotic meeting. The Kenya Skydivers Club proved to be an excellent host and provided a beautiful meeting location with adequate facilities. A total of 40 countries sent delegates. All Subcommittees for the parachuting disciplines worked hard on their proposals and WPC's. The next IPC meeting will take place in Vilamoura, Portugal, February 4 - 8, 1998.
The Freestyle Skydiving and Skysurfing Subcommittee worked on proposals
for changes to the competition rules 1997 and on the 1st IPC World
Championships (WPC) in these events. The accepted changes you will find
attached below. Work on the WPC, to be held during the 1st World Air
Games (WAG), is advancing rapidly. The Subcommittee is confident about
the event and is thankful to the Turkish Aeroclub for organising such an
enormous event.

The 5th World Games will be held in Lahti, Finland. The World Games are the games for those sports opting for Olympic status. Parachuting will be represented by the Formation Skydiving FS-4, Accuracy Landing and Freestyle Skydiving disciplines and will take place August 7 - 12. Aircraft will be Mi-8 helicopters. Skydiving will be a first category IPC event. The respective IPC World Championships and Worldcups 1996 served as selection competitions. Six nations per event will compete in Lahti.
Major media coverage is assured by Trans World International (TWI) and by the Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE. Entry fee for parachuting has been established at 250 Swiss francs per competitor. The IPC and the FAI realise the great importance of the World Games in the aspiration of Olympic status for parachuting. The next World Games will be held in Akita, Japan, 2001.
