Official names and abbreviations for events

The IPC has approved it's latest version of the internal regulations. This document has leaded to a change in the official names of the technical subcommittees. All subcommittees have been changed to committees. The official name now is: IPC Committee for Freestyle Skydiving & Skysurfing.
Furthermore, the Committee suggests all parties concerned (IPC, organisers, magazines, etc.) use the following official abbreviations:


Competition rules 1999

The IPC Plenary 1999 in Dubrovnik, Croatia approved the competition rules 1999 for freestyle skydiving and skysurfing. These rules will be effective May 1, 1999. Please find attached the rules and addenda. Within short time these rules will be available at the FAI website at www.fai.org/parachuting/documents/.


Future format competition rules

The IPC Development Workgroup received an IPC commitment to work towards a common structure on competition rules (for all disciplines) within set parameters. Goals: sorter and cheaper competitions, easier to comprehend for public, more media attention, etc. These parameters for freestyle skydiving and skysurfing are as follows: total of 7 jumps, a qualification of 4 jumps, installation of quarter finals, semi-finals and finals. All scores for competitors will be 0 points after the qualification and each final round. The number of judges will be reduced from 5 to 3 per panel. the event judges will be cancelled and the panels will be monitored by the chief judge.


Competition rules 2000

The IPC agreed with the committee's proposal to set up a working document for the competition rules 2000. These rules will include freeflying as the committee's goal is to include this event in 2000. The rules will be available before March 1, 1999. The committee encourages organisers to hold competitions with these rules for all three events, be together or separate, during the year. The committee shall monitor the comments on these rules and evaluate them for proposals for changes for 2000. These proposals will be in the IPC agenda for the 2000 meeting in Canberra, Australia. The format of these rules will meet the parameters as mentioned higher.


Future events

The confirmed events are listed below. There are also non confirmed events at present.
The Committee was empowered by the IPC to decide within 4 months (in conjunction with the IPC Bureau) on a bid from Brazil for a Worldcup FR / SK through August 19-27, 2000 in Campinas, São Paulo state. The Committee was furthermore empowered to follow the same procedure for a bid from Turkey for Open European Championships in September 2000, location: Efes.
The World Games will be an event with selection criteria during the World Air Games. Freestyle skydiving at present is a confirmed event at the World Games. The first 5 teams at the WAG are selected to compete at the World Games. These competitors should bare in mind the short time between WAG and World Games.


International Teams

The IPC now officially approved not to allow international teams, while the FR / SK events will be allowed to have international teams till December 31, 1999. This note should be taken seriously by all currently training international teams.
