    NEWS BULLETIN #8 APRIL 2000
IPC Committee for Freestyle Skydiving, Skysurfing & Freeflying

    Freeflying

Freeflying has been accepted as an official IPC / FAI event at the IPC Plenary, January 2000 in Canberra, Australia. As such, competition rules have been established which have been included in the freestyle skydiving & skysurfing rules.
The first Worldcup of Freeflying will take place at Skydive Arizona, Eloy, USA, November 7 through 13, 2000. The first World Championships of Freeflying will take place during the 2nd World Air Games in Granada, Spain, June 23 through July 1, 2001.

    Competition rules: calculation error

There is a calculation error in the competition rules freestyle skydiving, skysurfing & freeflying. The change has now been posted at www.fai.org.

The last sentence in the first paragraph 5.12.1 "After scoring, the total score shall be divided by two" must be deleted.

Para. 5.12.1 states that the performers are scored for each of the 4 compulsory sequences. The intention is that the two performers together get one score for their performance on a 0-10 range. This gives a maximum of 40 points. Than para 5.12.1 says is shall be divided by two, leading to a maximum of 20 points. Continuing with para 5.14.7, it states that this total will be divided by four, leading to a maximum of 5 points (instead of the intended maximum of 10 points for a compulsory jump)

Addenda A - remarks about the Compulsory Sequences

At present the Committee is aware of some different interpretations of the compulsory sequences. In order to rule these out we provide the following extra information.

    Freestyle Skydiving:
    9. Arabian - Deanna Sequence: The description starts as follows "From a left / right Tee move the left / right leg outward" etc. The meaning of this is that you can start in a left or right Tee, after which you continue with either the first option throughout the sequence or the second option throughout the sequence. Or, in other words, you use the first left Tee (1st option) as a start, delete the right Tee (2nd option), while a mirror image sequence is allowed throughout the whole sequence.

    Skysurfing:
    9. Scorpion: The description of the Scorpion has been made more explicit as follows.

    • Entry into the Scorpion shall be from a stand-up position, into a belly to earth with the arms in a box position (like Formation Skydiving parachutists).
    • The Surfboard must be in a Position behind the back of the Performer in a horizontal plane.
    • The Performer must grab the surfboard with one hand and the Surfboard should be upright into a vertical or horizontal plane. (flat to the performers back or at right angles to it)
    • The Scorpion must spin rapidly, with a minimum of five revolutions performed within five seconds from the start of the first revolution. (more revolutions may be performed)
    • Spin can be in either direction.
    • Movement must remain about the horizontal axis, without tilting or wobbling.

    Camera requirements:
    - Camera must be in the same horizontal plane as the Performer during the Scorpion.

    Skysurfing:
    7. Synchronised Barrel Sequence
There is no camera requirement so the part "synchronised" is not apt. For better understanding: the cameraflyer has no specific requirement in this particular compulsory sequence.

    Freeflying:
Helicopter Carve: the cameraflyer should be carving around the centre point (in this sequence the position of the performer doing the helicopter) and turning in the same direction as the helicopter.

    Future events

The IPC events known at present are listed below. They can be found on the IPC Calendar page at http://www.fai.org/parachuting/competitions/
