1st FAI World Cup in Vertical Formation Skydiving, Eloy, Arizona, 26/10/2008 - 29/10/2008

The 1st World Cup in Vertical Formation Skydiving ended last night with a banquet and excellent closing ceremony, with a champagne celebration on the podium.  The results as published were declared valid.

15.28 The competition is over, barring a protest during the 2 hrs followng the posting of these results.  During this period a Competitors Meeting was held to discuss the future of this exciting discipline.  As the Chair of the FS Subcommitee was also the FAI Controller she can take the discussion of this meeting to the committee at IPC.

 

Gold Medal Winners:  USA Arizona Arsenal:  total 123 points, average of 20.50

Silver Medal Winners:  USA Mandrin : total 106 points, average of 17.67

Bronze Medal Winners:  France 4 Speed : total 83 points, average of 13.83.

Congratulations to all the medal winners, all competitors and the Meet organisers.

I think it is also the first time a World Cup has been completed in a day.

16.00 hrs is a competitors meeting, 19.00 the Closing Ceremony and Banquet.

 

8.00 The first load is in the air.

9.00 the first round is judged - USA Arizona Arsenal are in 1st place with 16 points.  

10.20 and the second round is judged - USA Arizona Arsenal are still in the lead with 38 points.

11.35 round three is judged - USA Arizona Arsenal in 1st place with 61 pts.

12.47 round four is judged - only 2 more to go:  USA Arizona Arsenal is still in 1st place with 74 points

14.08 round five is judged - USA Arizona Arsenal is 15 points ahead of the second team USA Mandrin

The Jury has agreed, at the request of the Meet Director, that the closing ceremony be brought forward to 19.00 hrs this evenging

The World Cup was declared open by Graeme Windsor, President of IPC.  He called this day a historic day with the first World competition in this new discipline.

The opening was marked by a performance by a Native American Indian who danced a traditional hoop dance which impressed the watching jumpers.

 

Four team are registered for the competition.  USA Arsenal and USA Manadrin, France and Canada.

 

Competition jumps commence with first call at 7.45 on the Monday morning the 27th October.
