| FAI/CIVL press release, Paris, 19th February 1997 CIVL takes on PR co-ordinator in drive to advance and promote sport
CIVL is the branch of the FAI that is responsible for the international aspects of hang gliding and paragliding. CIVL consists of a group of volunteers from the sports who have been selected by their national associations to represent them at FAI level. For a long time CIVL has recognised the need to advance and promote our sports not only within the FAI, but more importantly to the pilots, public and media. However being unpaid volunteers, often with other demands on their busy lives, it has frequently been difficult to fit in these time consuming tasks. For this reason they have led the way for the rest of the Commissions within the FAI by appointing the own PR co-ordinator, Sarah Fenwick. Sarah is well known to many in both hang gliding and paragliding. She has worked, played and competed in the sports since 1984. Her work has included 4 years as Sales and Marketing Manager for Airwave where she gained valuable PR training and experience. She has also been a member of the British Team at World and European Paragliding Championships as well as having held three paragliding World Records. More recently she has become an FAI Steward. For the last 3 1/2 years she has run her own PR and event Management business. With her background knowledge of the sport and her PR experience CIVL decided Sarah was well qualified for the 'job description' of PR Co-ordinator. Sarah started work on the long list of PR related CIVL projects in December 1996. Priority tasks include the International Pilot Proficiency Identification Card (IPPI), encouraging more FAI sanctioned category 2 competitions and an International Pilot Ranking System for both hang glider and paraglider pilots, which will take into account results from all Category 1 and Category 2 competitions. Those wanting to receive information or give information relevant to CIVL can contact Sarah at: Cloud 10, 46 Nodgham Lane, Carisbrooke, Isle of Wight, PO30 1NY, England, tel & fax +44 (0) 1983 523003 or e-mail: civl@ukonline.co.uk
