Approved Electronic Barographs

FAI-CIVL-Subcommittee for Flight Verification (FAI-CIVL-SFV) would like to inform manufacturers and users of electronic barographs of the following:

Instruments that are approved by FAI-CIVL-SVF for record and badge flights are identified by specific hardware and software revisions. Hence change of hardware and/or software after the initial approval will require requalification in order to ensure that the instrument is still within the requirements. The requalification is done according to the following procedure:

  1. The manufacturer sends an application to FAI-CIVL-SFV encompassing the following:
    • a) A description of the background for the revisions.

      b) A description of how the revisions have been implemented, in sufficient detail for an evaluation of the revision by FAI-CIVL-SFV.

      c) A test report describing which tests have been performed and with what results, in order to ensure that the instrument still fullfills the requirements after the revisions.

      d) A declaration, with reference to item a), b) and c) above, that the revised instrument complies with the spirit and letter of the FAI-CIVL-SFV requirements for electronic barographs.

  2. FAI-CIVL-SFV evaluates the application from the manufacturer and choose one of the following requalification routes:
    • a) Immediate approval: A new certificate will be published with reference to the new revision. Fee = CHF 500.

      b) A minor retest: One production unit of the instrument will have to be sent to FAI-CIVL-SFV for retest of the revised items/functions. Fee = CHF 750.

      c) Complete retest: Fee = CHF 1000.

The fee shall be paid before the requalification work is started.
