FAI signs up to WADA's ADAMS

FAI recently signed up as a fully integrated user of the World Anti-Doping Agency's Anti-Doping Administration and Management System (ADAMS). This system is coming of age with added functionality and easy-to-use features which will enable FAI competitors to minimise the impact on them of complying with the World Anti-Doping Code.

World Air Games 2009 : Hang Gliding & Paragliding Test Events Completed

Paragliding AccuracyThe World Air Games Test Events for Hang Gliding and Paragliding were successfully held on 18 and 19 August at Avigliana (ITA).

Athletes invited to this two-day test event competed in four spectacular disciplines : Hang Gliding Speed Run, Hang Gliding Aerobatics, Paragliding Accuracy and Paragliding Aerobatics (Solo and Syncro).

New President heads World Air Games 2009

World Air Games 2009 : Ballooning Test Event Completed

Flying over Mondovi's "Torre del Belvedere"The 21st Italian Hot Air Balloons Championship and World Air Games Test Event was held from 8 to 13 July at Mondovi. The new Italian Champion is Paolo Bonanno.

Four successful competition days provided valuable experience of the flight conditions around Mondovi.

Get a TUE!

Don't fail an anti-doping test just because of paperwork! As an FAI competitor, you may be tested for doping purposes during an FAI event.

If you regularly take medication prescribed by your doctor and this medication is on the World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) Prohibited List, you need to get a form called a TUE (therapeutic use exemption) filled out by your doctor. International level athletes must send the form to the FAI Secretariat, National level athletes send it to their National Air Sport Control.

Airsports.tv goes live

Last December, we announced in FAI News 16/07 that international broadcasting of the first "Airsports World" TV Series had started, and that the series was available in DVD format. This 13-episode TV series, featuring most of the major FAI World Championships of 2007, reached over 250 million homes, and attracted many new viewers to air sports.

The FAI website homepage has undergone some changes; the photos you see when you first visit are part of a rotating bank of images taken from the FAI Archives and refresh every 15 minutes. Click on an image to enlarge it and then click left or right to navigate through the images.

There are direct links to our FAI Air Sport and Technical Commissions, as well as tables of the latest world record claims and current and upcoming Category 1 events.

World Air Games 2009 : Successful Gliding GP Test Event

The 1st Torino Sailplane Grand Prix was held from 15 to 21 June at the Torino Aeritalia Airport. The winner of this Qualifying GP, a Test Event for the World Air Games 2009, was the Italian pilot Stefano Ghiorzo.

After the first two competition days had to be cancelled (rain), four daily tasks were successfully achieved (Photos / Results) and allowed gathering precious experience on the flight conditions around Turin.

Greek Minister for Sport receives FAI Delegation at Sportaccord 2008

During the recent 2008 Sportaccord Congress in Athens, the FAI President and Secretary General were invited by the Greek Minister for Sport to discuss air sports in Greece and the Icaria flame-lighting ceremony at the opening ceremony of the World Air Games in Turin in 2009. The photo shows Minister Yiannis Ioannidis with the FAI and Hellenic Aeronautical and Air Sports Federation officials.

World Air Games 2009 : Aeromodelling Test Events Completed

On Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 June, test events for Aeromodelling (Photos) were held at the Torino Aeritalia Airport, the main venue for the World Air Games 2009, and at the Palaruffini indoor venue.

Rain showers prevented the conclusion of all the “Hand-Thrown Gliders” competitions, but the whole programme of “Artistic Aerobatics” and “AeroMusicals” events was completed.

World Air Games 2009 : D-Day minus 365

In exactly one year, on Saturday 6 June 2009, the opening ceremony of the World Air Games 2009 will be held in Turin.
Last Saturday, almost a year after the organization of the World Air Games 2009 had been awarded to the city of Turin, test events for Parachuting, Aerobatics and Helicopters (Photos) were held at the Torino Aeritalia Airport, the main venue of the 2009 Games.
