The rules which govern UAV records are included in 2 FAI documents:

Check-list and information for setting UAV records

The following check-list is intended for designers and operators of UAV who wish to establish world Records.

Step 1) download and review the rules governing UAV World Records (see above)

Step 2) review the list of current world records, and claims pending ratification to check the current performances. Decide on which record you want to break or establish.

Step 3) contact your National Airsport Control organisation (NAC). They will advise you about the current fees charged by FAI to process UAV records, issue you with the required "UAV Record Licence", nominate official observers to monitor and control the record attempt and prepare the record dossier after the flight has taken place.

Step 4) the most interesting part... you make the flight !

Step 5) FAI must be notified within 7 days of the completion of the flight of any record claim that will made (see General Section 6.8.4).

Step 6) the record, ratified as a national record by the NAC, and must reach FAI within 120 days of the date of the flight. However, the sooner the process is completed, the better.

Step 7) once the dossier is received, FAI will review the evidence submitted and ratify the performance as a world record, if appropriate.
