FAI BALLOONING COMMISSION ANNUAL CONFERENCE
Annual Conference in Cernay-la-Ville, FRANCE

This year the annual conference of the International Ballooning Commission  (CIA) of the Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI) was held March 7 and 8 in Cernay-la-Ville, FRANCE and hosted by the Federation Francaise d’ Aerostation (FFA), Martine Besnainou, French Delegate.

There were 27 countries represented, in addition Wolfgang Weinreigh, President FAI and Jean-Marc Badan, Promotions Manager also from the FAI. Future World Air Games (WAG) sanctioned by the FAI were significantly downsized from previous WAG that had 4000 participants making it very expensive and a logistical nightmare. The 3rd WAG will have approximately 750 participants and will include 60 lighter than air competitors including 30 hot air balloons, 15 gas balloons, and 15 hot air ships.

The following Category One events were approved either at this conference or in previous conferences:

• 2003 13th European Hot Air Balloon Championship, Lithuania
• 2003 3rd MOL Cup Debrecen Hot Air Balloon International Competition and Airshow, Hungary
• 2003 4th Termofarm Cup 2003, Hungary
• 2003 Mobilux Trophy, Luxembourg
• 2003 11th Coupe d’Europe de Mongolfieres, & 14th Ladies World Cup, France
• 2003 47th Coupe Aeronautique Gordon Bennett, France
• 2003 Motegi Hot Air Balloon International Championship, Japan
• 2004 16th World Hot Air Balloon Championship, Australia previously granted
• 2005 14th European Hot Air Balloon Championship, Hungary
• 2006 Motegi Hot Air Balloon World Championship, Japan

The following awards were presented at the conference:

• Best Performance, Hot Air Vic Johnson & Larry Simburger (USA)
• Best Performance, Gas Vincent & Jean Leys (FRA)

Santos Dumont Gold Airship Medal

• Hokan Colting (CAN)

• Gun Ekdahl (SWE)
