"Over 200 years of ballooning and airship history surround you!"

The Museum's new 14,000 square foot building houses this world famous collection. Museum co-founders Jacques W. Soukup and Kirk S. Thomas have assembled a fascinating and educational variety of ballooning memorabilia. Re-live the history of gas and hot air balloons dating from the 1700's to the present day, and the grandeur of the majestic airships of this century. The Museum, a non-profit corporation, also houses the FAI Ballooning Commission's International Balloon and Airship Hall of Fame.

The Modern Era gallery holds balloon baskets and burners, balloon mail, trophies, crystal, balloon memorabilia, jewelry and collectables. You can even climb into an authentic balloon basket, simulate the operation of the burners' blast valves and take a memorable photo!
The airship HINDENBURG (LZ-129) was the first zeppelin specifically designed for the North Atlantic passenger route between Germany and North America. The airship exploded into flames as she was approaching the mooring mast at Lakehurst, New Jersey, on May 6, 1937.
Shown above is a dining room service from the doomed craft: 3 plates, coffee cup, mustard dish and a crystal goblet. Elsewhere are displayed dishes from the crew's mess and even a plate from her sister ship, the Graf Zeppelin (LZ-127).
