List of Prohibited Substances and Methods updated

The latest version of the List of Prohibited Substances and Methods has been published by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

It is updated at least annually and is published on WADA’s website in October and comes into force on 1 January. The official text is published by WADA in English and French.

Modifications

The full list of modifications to the Prohibited List can be found in WADA’s Summary of Major Modifications and Explanatory Notes.

However, the major changes are outlined below:

  • Glucocorticoids
As of January 1, 2022, all injectable routes of administration are now prohibited for glucocorticoids during the In-Competition period. Examples of injectable routes of administration include: intravenous, intramuscular, periarticular, intra-articular, peritendinous, intratendinous, epidural, intrathecal, intrabursal, intralesional (e.g. intrakeloid), intradermal, and subcutaneous.
  • Salbutamol
Under the 2022 WADA Prohibited List, the daily dosing time intervals for salbutamol are modified to 600 micrograms over 8 hours starting from the time any dose is taken (previously 800 micrograms over 12 hours). This is to reduce the risk of any potential Adverse Analytical Finding arising after high doses are taken at once. The total permitted daily dose remains at 1600 micrograms over 24 hours. A Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) should be sought for doses in excess of these limits.

FAI strongly recommends every athlete and athlete support personnel to check medication and route of administration on Global DRO and to seek for a TUE of the use of a prohibited substance or method.
