Jerzy Kołasiński has been involved in glider aviation sports since 1972. During the many years of his professional career, Jerzy contributed much to the popularizing of the glider aviation sport. In the 1980’s he organized exchanges between Regional Aeroclubs in Poland (Ostrów Wielkopolski) and in Hungary, which then allowed for many Polish glider pilots to appear in flight exhibitions beyond Poland’s borders. In the years 1996-2003, he was captain of the Glider Representation for Poland with a noticeable effort made in the development of Polish gliding during those difficult years. In 1999, he was honored with the Czesław Tański Medal for “Outstanding contribution in the development of sports gliding in Poland”. Ever since 1995, he has uninterruptedly organized winter season meets with Polish glider sportsmen, which, along with its solely technical purposes, holds talks and can-do discussions on glider flying. He is the founding father of the first in Poland and unique elsewhere ‘Kolasinski Gliding Team’, which supports young gliding captains in their quest for world championship positions in Poland and abroad; Supports financially the Polish gliding junior cadre. Is a promoter of the ‘private gliding sport’ field in Poland- Is a pioneer in glider flights in Africa, serving as a source of inspiration for young Polish glider pilots. Is the author of some 30 articles covering the glider sport in ‘Skrzydlata Polska’ and Air Force Review’ magazines, as well as in other dailies and glossy magazines, from beyond the sector. Is a big booster of gliding as a sport and realizes his mission by:
Organizing prestigious meetings and air flight picnics, with the presence of many Polish national glider cadre members, and such esteemed guests as Bertrand Pickard;
Finding strategic sponsors for the sport (such as Bank Credit Suisse, and Dresdner Bank in Zurich;
Radio and television appearances and numerous publications associated with the gliding sector.
