As the world governing body for all air sports recognised by the International Olympic Committee, the FAI is responsible for world drone sports.
Drone racing is the newest air sport within the FAI. Driven by the development of easily available technology, drones have been brought tens of thousands of new people into the world of air sports very quickly. In countries across the world, whether it's flying a drone for photography, racing drones, or using drones for business, it is clear that a whole new world of aerial activity is opening up.
The first FAI World Drone Racing Championships took place in Shenzhen, China, from 1 to 4 November 2018, and the 2018 edition of the FAI Drone Racing World Cup was the biggest yet, involving a total of 669 pilots from 41 countries, up from 435 pilots from 37 countries last year. The 2019 edition is even more exciting with the launch of a new Masters World Cup Series. The 2019 FAI World Drone Racing Championship - Grand Final will take place in China at the end of the year.
