106th FAI General Conference

he 106th session of the annual FAI General Conference concluded on Saturday in Antalya, Turkey. More than 130 Participants coming from 50 FAI Member Countries attended the event that took place from 18 to 20 October 2012. The plenary sessions were preceded by the 2012 FAI Awards Ceremony on Thursday 18.

Elections

FAI President John Grubbström was re-elected for a 2 year mandate. Jonghoon Lee didn’t stand for election again and the Heads of Delegations voted for Frederic Brink from Netherlands to join the FAI Executive Board. All the other Executive Directors were re-elected.

Companions of Honour

Former CIMP President Peter Saundby and Former CIVL President John Aldrige were appointed by the FAI President as Companions of Honour after the approval by the Head of Delegations.

Projects

A review of ongoing projects such as the collaboration with Breitling, the Expert System, the development of FAME, the launch of the IT project for the database modernisation, the anti-doping plan, the sports strategy and the regional management system was made by different speakers.

New FAI Members

The FAI General Conference accepted the following applications for FAI Membership:

  • Jordan (Active - Class 10)
  • Panama (Associate)
  • St Kitts and Nevis (Associate)
  • Tunisia (Associate)
  • Uruguay (Associate)
  • Bahrain and Oman (status changed from Temporary to Associate)
  • Vietman (Temporary)
  • COLPAR (International Affiliate)

Recommended Museum

The General Conference approved the application for "Recommended Museum" status for The National Model Aviation Museum in Muncie, USA.

Future General Conferences

During the conference the bid by Thailand to host the 108th General conference was voted through.
The next General Conference will be held from 4 to 5 October 2013 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
