Euro PGA 2022: there are leaders but the final is still unpredictable
Jury President Andrew Cowley from UK shares the news of the 7th FAU European Paragliding Accuracy Championships.
What a day!… mixed weather from perfect conditions for accuracy to the arrival of rain showers that were predicted at midday. The competition had to be paused and all the equipment covered. The competition at the top continues to be very tight. Eight rounds were officially finished and the ninth round half‑way completed. At the end of the eight valid rounds, the very consistent George Cotet (ROM) on a total of 10 cms leads by 5 cms from Vlastimil Vachtl (CZE). Very close behind are fellow Serbian team pilots Goran Djurkovic and Dragan Popov who are currently tying in third place with 16cm: just one centimetre behind Vachtl. The final positions cannot be predicted with the ninth rounds due to be completed the following day.
Catherine Devos (FRA) continues to perform strongly to lead the female pilots with a score of 34 cm and Marketa Tomaskova (CZE) appears to have recovered her form, now chasing the leader with 169cm. Spela Krnc (SLO) is close behind with a total score of 258cm. It will be no surprise to learn that the team category is led by Serbia (56cm), closely followed by the Czech team (75cm) and the Slovenians on 114cm. With the final day of action scheduled tomorrow, the final results are impossible to guess.
Finally, we like to mention the sad demise yesterday of the UK monarch, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II: The British team contingent would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the persons in the event who went out of their way to personally pass on their condolences. The sentiments and kind words were very much appreciated. RIP.
Tomorrow is the final day.
