Korea and Germany claim overall titles at the CISM World Military Parachuting Championship
The 47th CISM World Military Parachuting Championship, held in Doha from 13 to 23 November, concluded with exceptional performances from 236 athletes representing 28 nations. The Republic of Korea won the women’s overall title and Germany the men’s, with their consistency in Accuracy Landing, Formation Skydiving and Style securing both team victories.
CISM, the International Military Sports Council, upholds the motto ‘Friendship through Sport’ and has long partnered with the FAI through its Skydiving Commission (ISC), a collaboration reflected in the high technical standard and international camaraderie on display at this year’s championship.
Germany enjoyed one of its strongest championships, highlighted by Robin Griesheimer’s victories in Male Style and later in Male Accuracy Landing, earning him the Male Style and Accuracy Landing Overall title. Speaking after securing the Style gold, Griesheimer, 28, said:
“This victory proved to me that all the training finally pays off. When I started to become a professional skydiver, my main target was to become world champion in Style. It took me seven years in this sport, and I have finally reached my goal. That makes me feel proud of myself.”
Austria’s Michael Urban, 23, delivered a standout junior performance, securing two gold medals and underscoring a strong championship for Austria, whose men’s delegation finished third overall. He said:
“Winning my first CISM Junior Accuracy gold here in Qatar is a very special moment for me. Taking the Junior Style and Accuracy Landing Overall gold as well is something I’m proud of, especially because the conditions were challenging at times with strong winds and long stand-by phases. Still, the event was excellently organised and we had solid conditions overall.”
The championship received widespread praise for its organisation, hospitality and venue quality. The Qatar Air Sports Committee, the Qatar Armed Forces and the Qatar delegation to CISM delivered facilities and support of a world-class standard, with many competitors expressing a strong wish to return.
Alberto Martin Paracuellos, the President of the FAI Skydiving Commission, attended the event. He said:
“This championship has showcased the very best of our sport. My warmest congratulations to the organisers for an excellently delivered event, and to all competitors for the skill, focus and determination they displayed in Doha. I also want to thank the officials, the judges and everyone working behind the scenes for their commitment. The partnership between CISM and the FAI continues to strengthen our sport, and this year’s edition reflects that collaboration at its finest.”

About the FAI-CISM Partnership
The CISM World Military Parachuting Championships is a regular Category 1 event on the FAI calendar.
Like the FAI, CISM is recognised by the International Olympic Committee, and parachuting as a sport has grown through a close, mutually supportive relationship between the two organisations. Accuracy Landing and Style have featured since the inaugural event in 1964, with Formation Skydiving added in 1979.
Colonel Nilton Gomes Rolim Filho, the President of CISM, said:
“Our collaboration with the FAI is an essential pillar for the development and excellence of military parachuting worldwide. By combining CISM’s military expertise with the FAI’s technical leadership, we ensure the highest standards of fairness, judging and safety for our athletes. This partnership strengthens the bridge between the military and civilian parachuting communities, and we look forward to expanding this constructive and dynamic cooperation in the years to come.”
