Aerobatic paragliding judges seminar – Organyà (SPA), May 12th-16th 2019
The Aerobatic Committee of the Commission Internationale de Vol Libre (CIVL) has decided to organise a seminar for candidate judges to be held May 12-16, 2019 in Organyà, Spain. The aim of the seminar is to form a team of highly qualified judges, from as many nations as possible. Aerobatic is the most spectacular and visual discipline of paragliding. But it is also the most complex discipline to score. With the introduction of the new battle competition format, it has become even more complex. The level of the athletes is continuously improving. So we must keep up the level of the judging.

A selection will then be made by the aerobatic committee and the elected candidates will be invited to the seminar.
The travel and accommodation budget of participants will be jointly funded by CIVL and NACs.
The seminar will be led by some of the world’s very best aerobatic pilots such as Théo de Blic and Horacio Llorens. No tuition fee is collected: the newly formed judges are only requested to make themselves available to act as a judge during at least one competition each season.

Sunday, May 12th
08–10 Arrival of the last trainees. Welcome.
10–12: Introduction. Description of the seminar. Description of the formation’s goals and answering the various questions.
12–13: Lunch.
13–14: Description of the FAI rules. Clarifying some points for those with little judging experience.
14–15: Transfer to take off.
15–18: Flying session of the pilots. The trainees will be on the take-off judging for the first time. It will be used to evaluate their basic level in judging.

18–19: Discussion about the outcomes of this first afternoon judging.
Monday, May 13th
09–12: Indoor theory lessons with the help of video teaching.
12–13: Lunch.
13–14: Transfer to take off.
14–18: Flying session for the pilots. The trainees will stay at the take-off and train to judge. Some pilots will stay on the ground helping the judging by pinpointing important points and giving personal advice and discussions with the trainee to progress.

18–19: Review of the day’s outcomes.
Tuesday, May 14th
09–12: Indoor theory lessons with the help of video teaching.
12–13: Lunch.
13–14: Transfer to take off.
14–18: Flying session for the pilots. The trainees will stay at the take-off and train to judge. Some pilots will stay on the ground helping the judging by pinpointing important points and giving personal advice and discussions with the trainee to progress. Focus on battle format judging.

18–19: Review of the day’s outcomes.
Wednesday, May 15th
09–12: Indoor theory lessons with the help of video teaching.
12–13: Lunch.
13–14: Transfer to take off.
14–18: Real life examination of the judge’s skills via judging several solo and battle format runs.
In case of bad weather or poor flying conditions,>>> the examination will be done with the help of videos.
18–19: Review of the day’s outcomes. Coaches’ meeting. Results of the examination.
Thursday, May 16th
Reserve day for examination.
Building of the judging team for the season 2019.
Final discussion.
Free flights.
Seminar closing at 7 pm.
Remark: Friday, May 17th and Saturday, May 18th might be used as additional reserve days in case of persistent bad weather: whenever possible, candidates should remain available these days. In any case, trainees are allowed to stay longer (until Sunday, May 19th) to further deepen their knowledge and skills, as well as to enjoy the unique flying site of Organyà.
